Cool Jimi's Opinion Thread

Hello, I'm Jimi, just here to say that I'm very impressed that you guys have put so much time and are so interested in what the customers have to say. I have been recruiting guild people for 2 months now and I feel like a Fan.

Well If I had any suggestions it would be:

To have Map Editor/Item Editor for to add detailed portions of weapons and maybe have contests posts in game or out of game art design, this would keep all those computer geeks happy like me

Also I Would Feel a Microphone System free for everyone would help sales and Perhaps Have A Bandwidth Monitor so that that bandwidth wouldn't be so stressful on the system, And if there are Mics there should be a mute system and Volume level somewhere, Can't stand the babblers. But I also Feel that this would be more appealing to the Consumers

Guess I would like to say that I would like the option to be able to be in multiple guilds in case one of the guilds isn't on, but then I suppose this would make people able to be on top all the time, But thats cool.

Guess I would like to say A Guild Game without radar would be fun, just to be able to Have to keep your team in mental check. I dig the GvG it's a fun side options to questing.

Another good Idea would be a "Item drop" option or button or something around that area. I want to drop items so my guild can have them when I don't want them.

Lastly, I'm going to drop a line about the Store Boxes and would like it if I could be able to transfer Items Between Characters I build so I don't have to trust my Shady Guild Memebers .

Well, Guess I would like to send a thank you out from a broke Store Clerk getting 5.60 after 2 years and Unable to Pay the Monthly fees of most MMORPGS, and lets say I thank you for Time and Generousity, I hope that you have a loyal customer base.

Peace,
Jimi

when questing, you could use a notepad type of thing. that you can type in and take notes for yourself during quests. like, locations, names, stuff like that. because sometimes when you need to find someone its not actually in your quest window.

This is my first time playing GW, but here are the things I found difficult or needing help.

1. A quick tutorial on id/salvage and making armor. As a new player I had no clue how to get better armor and had to search quite a while to figure it all out. I see tons of people spamming trying to figure this out in game. I would suggest having the players take a quest that allows them to id an item, salvage it and make a single piece of armor so they understand the process better.

2. Show where the selected quest is on the overhead map. My first time through half the time I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to go to continue or finish a quest since the compass only points green when it is in that county.

3. In the quest list, group quests by area. Nothing more annoying than going back to the same area for the 5th quest and killing the same monsters because I didn't know I needed to do more quests in that area.

4. When one member of the group gets a quest, all members of the group should get that quest if it is available to them. The same for cashing one in. Seems strange that a group often has to repeat carrying a chest back to an NPC.

5. Show group members in a color other than green on the compass map. It can get real confusing as to which green dot is an NPC and which is a team member.

6. Rather than making the user press ALT which isn't very intuitive, show the name of NPCs under their feet all the time or at least have an option to do so that is on by default.

7. Vendors! You don't need anything fancy. Allow players to list up to say 10 items for a specified price at a vendor. Throw in a filter to allow players to filter down by craft item, rune, shield, weapon, etc and I think most players will thank you. You could go exotic and do an ebay type WoW interface, but I think simple often works best.

8. Invite or join command that can be executed when players are at any distance.

9. Ability to keep group together when traveling using the overhead map.

10. An arrow on the compass other than green that shows the direction of the team leader.

11. Hotkey to target player or monster that last damaged you.

12. Checkbox to turn on/off combat messages in the chat window. Would be nice to see: Gwen Warrior slashes you for 29 points of damage using Gash, Necro Loser casts Life Siphon on you, You puncture Gwen Warrior for 18 points of damage using Called Shot! Then we could do far better combat analysis and even see what/who is hitting us.

Most glaring dissapointments about guild wars after 2 BWE's would have to be:

-Friend's system
-Chat system
-Party member disconnects

The friend's system is horribly dissapointing. You add them in, and then you get to know when they're logged in or not, yay. =\
They don't even know whether you've added them or not.
No notifications when your friends log in/out, locations, class info, or anything remotely useful other than telling you there current name and whether they're online or not.

I'd like to see a pop-up you can activate with some details about their current character, including name, level, profession(s), and current location. Another preferrable inclusion would be a 'status' button, to put in either pre-set statuses, or a custom status, such as "away", "in a mission", etc.

Friend's should be a mutual thing, as well, not a tracking device one person can put on another secretly, even if it is pretty pointless.

Also, tied into friends and the next point, the lack of a chat (which would definitely be a pleasant addition, with the 'filter' options that have been added) that address all of the online people in your friend's list. Guildmates are supposed to be there for you, for help, etc. , but so are friends. And sometimes, you just want to hold a large conversation and have a little fun with people. Not all guildmates'd likely appreciate guild chat spam, so friend's chat would be the place to put it, and friends can easily click a button to disable friend's chat when they're not in the mood or are otherwise occupied.

Another issue I have with the chat system is losing messages while switching maps. Have to re-open the window after going to a new location and scroll up past the 'submit bug reports using /bug' message to see any messages I might have missed while switching maps.

Either bouncing the message back ("user may not receive message" or some similar thing to inform the sender that they aren't being ignored >.<) while in-between maps or a pop-up with missed messages would be welcome additions to me.

Last one is a readily discussed issue with no simple solution, I know, but it doesn't mean I don't want to leave my $0.02 out.

So very annoying to be on a winning streak in the arena with a good team of people you enjoy PvPing with, and then suddenly, someone disconnects in the beginning of the next match before the fighting's even started, and you're one person short. In the 4 vs 4 arenas, this makes a pretty big difference.

At one section of the Tomb battles, a guildmate disconnected at the start of the first actual match, followed by some extreme lag after the fighting had started, which the whole team felt, that resulted in a disconnect for another person, leaving us 2 people short, one before the fighting had even started.
Lost, filled the slots, tried again, and a person disconnected on the pre-cursor warden hunting mission.

And then there're dial-up users that've loaded up after the match is 3/4ths over, or worse. One battle had the person never even load into the map.

But the disconnection bit is more of a gripe, as I can't think of a viable solution to it. The first 2 I seriously recommend considering.

The only people I've really gotten to talk to in Guild Wars so far I knew before playing Guild Wars, excluding my Guild Leader.
The friend's system seems so artifical and bland. Sometimes I want to play, and sometimes I want to chat up a storm with random people on my friends list, and I don't want to have to whisper each one every time asking, "Are you busy?" just to strike up a conversation.

I will edit this later, but I conquer with the deletion of irrevelant quests that are just takin up space and cannot be completed. Also, how bout not making us respawn at the spawn points and having a millino monsters waiting to kill us.

More armor options would be good and WHAT THE HECK! with the new armor buying interface? That thing sucks. I like to see the weapons and armor I am about to buy. I look for cool lookin stuff not just the numbers on it. I might be alone in that, but I wanna see what I am buying. The little pictures are lame.

I said this in another post, but I conquer also with the auction house idea. It's too easy for someone to rip you off in this system, if you are not a veteran player of these types of games.

Also, When I picked a quest or a mission, the green sunburst would appear at a gate and then disappear when i warped through another one. Can you fix this?

I am into the way the game looks alot and one thing that I was thinking is when the Monsters us a skill, they have all kinds of effects that happen when they use it. Why can't we have the same effects when we use a power. It would look alot cooler to see your arrows explode the way the the monsters' arrows do when using the same skills and such.

Before you reject my ideas as nonsense please read them completely. I have good reasons for each.

Game Play:
1. Add a Pause button to the Game, but for only when a person is playing Solo. This would be useful for the often occurrence of the phone ringing while fighting a mob.
2. Make it so Area of effect spells that target a creature still goes off if that creature dies. I have on many occasions casted “fire rain” on a creature at the center of a mob, only to have it fail, because that creature died before the rest of his friends.

Guilds:
1. Make more then 3 types of Guild members. The problem with officers is if they have invite and they have kick. I would make it so there is one rank that is below an officer that has invite only. Because if an officer decides to switch to another guild he can kick everyone else before he leaves.
2. Add Armbands to display the current rank a member has in a guild. I just think this would be cool. It would also be useful for people trying to join a guild because normal members can’t invite.

Vault:
1. Make it so the vault can hold money for reasons stated by others.
2. Make multiple vaults for the guild so if a person wants to share an item with other guild members he can. I recommend multiple vaults so officers can have their vault, which is safe from normal members and the members can have a general vault they can access.

NPCs:
1. Add NPCs that can give you directions to the next city or mission, because when I am out exploring for the next place I tend to have no idea where I am going. Or make it so you can talk to your henchman and ask for directions.

Trading:
1. Add a way to re-customize or de-customize an item. I would love to be able to give my old armor or weapon to a friend once I am done with it.
2. Add an E-bay type system where players can sell/trade.

Quests:
1. Add Difficulty ratings that tell you how hard a quest would be with your current level.
2. Add to the description of the quest an estimate of how long it will take.

Missions:
1. Add Difficulty ratings that tell you how hard a mission would be with your current level.
2. Add to the description of the mission an estimate of how long it will take.

Played last 2 Beta's enjoyed both greatly. Just a few items id like to see changed and some in a later release.

changed first.

1. A few places in the medium lvl areas (10-13 lvs) there were some 1-3 lvl mobs still and gave you no XP for.

2. Whackier economics than player based economies (ie Ya get a guild island for less than 1300gld yet a bottle of dye costs just under 1000gld and ya need 4 or 5 to do all your armor, also bags i relize that becasue this is not a pay per month game you are trying to save on server space, but having to pay 100gld for a 5 item bag and then having to pay another 500gld to allow the same bag to hold upto 10 items is a little off to me).

3. Stragglers mission the stragglers would all die or not the right one would live B4 we were even able to get to them (we tried killing the mobs on the way we tried ignoring the mobs that would spawn right B4 we got there or other variations nothing worked). More of a bug I guess or there was something we didnt try.

Things id like to see in future.

1. An actual guild hall on our guild island. Also player housing would be great.

2. Player crafting, but keep the public crafters to keep prices in check and give SMALL bonuses for player crafted (say max crafter is lvl 5 and give a 1% bonus per lvl, enough that it will be sought after yet small enough it dosnt throw the game mechanics out of wack with "UBER" must have to compete items).

Things that worry me.

1. Please dont NERF in this game. This killed DAoC (speaking as a ranger from the begining they are SOSO now if you get all the special gear but still suck other wise). Not saying not to balance but use baby nerfs intead of the nerfing with a sledge hammer aproach and saying youll fix it later (because we all know it wont be fixed)

2. This destroyed SWG imo. Totally ignoring your player base (this goes with what i said above). If there is a combo that is obviously over powered fix it test it and adjust again as needed use baby nerfs, but dont do nothing. Doing nothing has cost SWG 75% of their player base to the point now where they felt the need to bring out the sledge hammer to try and fix it (when all people were asking for was a few tweaks, instead the lead programmer ignored this and wrote a book LOL).

Like i said great game enjoyed it a great deal. Just hope you can keep up the good work and hope your business model is a great succes because it assures me that you will always be adding new content.

Hate
Now I know that most MMO games have a "provoke" skill or something to that affect that steals the "hate" (it usually being a warrior who has this skill). I would love to have that skill featured in GW, even though it would serve no purpose in PvP. But for us PvE people, it would be great to have!

Auction
Everyone has already made it clear that a auction house would be great. The trade channel was a great idea but people just spammed everything anyway.

Party
Parties are a hard thing to make in an outpost. People will just randomly invite whoever they see and usually don't put together a good team. I was thinking that if you are "looking for party" that you could have a flag, icon, something next to your name saying thats what you want. Along with that a menu for other people to look through and find out who would like to be invited.

Emotions
I do believe someone has talked about this, so sorry for saying it again. It would be nice to have a feature where you could "taget" and person and type an emotion (i.e. /wave while someone highlighted = so and so waves to so and so). Also, it would be nice if all emotions didnt say "he" or "his" if a female is the character.

If there is a way to make staying with a group easier.

Like if one person uses the map to go to a different location a pop up box would come up and ask if you want to join that person in XYZ, and if you can not go there because you have never ventured there, just have the message say something like "player has gone to an area that you can not access". That way you will still be grouped with that person and it will eliminate the repetitiveness of telling your group ok meet me in XYZ distict#. Maybe the same can be with zoning in general so that would alow the person to choose if they want to zone or not.

Also having a way to indicate where some one in either your guild or friends list is currently located.

If it was a mission have <mission> next to their name. or <xyz District#>. so you can easily meet up with them with out having to ask where are you.

Dueling while in a mission

like implementing a /duel with some one that is in your group. That way you will not have to go out to a arena for a 1v1, and guilds can have their own private group battles.

Unsellable storage *Note this has been implemented

Can you please implement a way to either hide items to the vendors that you can chose not to sell or place them your small pouch anything in there will not be visible to the vendor to be sold. That way you will not have to worry about selling a item you want to switch to, instead of haveing to either keep track or hold in your storage

Have the option to remove cape in town. There is no drawback, your name already has [tag] already shown. There's no real excuse. Some capes just don't fit your character if you want a certain colour theme, and comprimising between the guild or you is a bad choice. Make this an option in town.

Default WaW thing

I have seen many ppl criticise the Worlds at War concept. And I think this is the biggest con that you should repair.
About the tombs thing. I think that it should just become a pvp arena thing and it shouldn't unlock any pve thing for your region. Instead you should hold a big tournament once every week/month/whatever. Where the best guilds of every region fight it out in a huge battle or elimination tournament or whatever. The region that wins will be able to enter the special pve missions for the week or month.
That way no one will be waiting for the pve areas to open when someone of their region holds the hoh. Waiting is boring. And guild wars was all about fun, right?

Default some thoughts

Hey,

I played the last BWE and enjoyed it quite a bit, but there were some things that I think could be tweaked a bit. Some of these are taken from earlier posts, so credit goes to whomever it came from.

Grapichal
-Add some more graphics for ranged attacks, constantly seeing different colored balls flying from char to char gets repetitive (this is for staff/wand type weapons)
-Beef up visual impact of some spells, make it so that their effects are more apparent in-game and more impressive (ex. the "ice spikes" spell looks like small lightning radiating out from target, if instead something like icicles bursting up from the ground/falling from the sky to hit them and surrounding area)
-Add armor options, for more covering or more/less ornate; also, an ability to add textures/patterns to armor (ie. could add flowers/birds/celtic knots to cloth, or scroll-work to metallic armor)
-Add blood as an option, to show when damage is made, when someone is bleeding, etc.
-(re?) Add the ability to have long hair, and facial hair, maybe allow them to be changed later by going to a barber/hair-dresser
-Add more options for dye: allow coloring main portion of armor, utilize a rgb mixing style with other colors (ie. gold) being more rare, allow previewing dyes
-Add proportions to character creation, allow making rotund/skinny chars
-Allow toggling display client-side of certain effects/items, such as capes and things like the new rank thing
-Mark members of your party when in town, I think a red crossed sword thing above their head would be pretty cool

Emotes/Chat
-Allow "targeted" emotes, where the currently selected character (or npc) is the recipient of the emote ("Thrall points at Fluffy" type thing)
-Add some sound emotes where your character says something ("/hi" would have your char say aloud "hello" or something like that)
-Maybe add some toned down emotes, as some may find the dances of some such as the female elem. a little offensive (I don't personally, but...), and move the sexy dance to something like "/sexy"
-Have the chat filters save state, so that I don't have to uncheck emotes every time I play

Quests/Map
-Mark quests for difficulty, red=nearly impossible, yellow=difficult, green=easy, it could be determined by your level and average level of current party, maybe
-Allow accepted quests to be removed from your list, maybe then allowing you to pick it back up by going back to the quest-giver in case you drop the wrong one on accident
-Maybe add the ability to put notes down on the in-game map, and make mousing-over things on the mini-map gives some basic info on the character (name, purpose [ie crafter], level, etc)

World at War
Personally I didn't participate in this but I have heard some complaints about racism/nationalism due to the national aspect.

-Maybe you could make countries from in-game countries and randomly assign them to guilds and characters when created, and joining a guild of another country would switch the char to the guilds country. That way you would get people from different countries in the same in-game country. Then the countries member guilds could be randomly shuffled (as in who is sent where) every couple of months in order to balance for guild growth/loss. Again I didn't play, so I don't know if this was really a problem.
-As a previous post said the WaW tourney should be held once a month, then the members of the winning country gets the content for the month, until the next tourney (or couple weeks/whatever)

Misc
-Control over your pet/hench's state of mind, like aggressive/defensive/passive
-have enemies lose aggro sooner, I ran clear across a county in pre-sear trailing 20+ enemies and never lost one that I could tell
-a ready button for group members to enter an instance
-more customization for controls, ie. map keys/change mouse sensitivity
-more ambient sounds, footsteps for your character and things like clacking stone/rumble for stone elementals, etc.
-more info about characters when selecting them before entering game (level, classes, location)
-the party dialog needs to remember where it was when entering town, in instance it always went back to where I had set it, but in town it moved to its default(?) position, covering up my exp. bar which I had put above the mini-map
-JUMPING! you should be able to jump in-map, it would allow more maneuverability in-game, and should have no effect on combat (attacks would have same chance to hit, so people don't just jump everywhere, like crack-rabbits ); or re-work the maps to remove some of the "invisible walls" that occur on slopes/random places

Lastly, I know that ANet is aware of the desire for alternate platforms for this game but, Please, for the love of all that is good, release a Linux client! I will be buying the game when it is released next week regardless, but the decision to buy add-ons would be greatly influenced by whether there was a Linux client; as dual-booting is a less than elegant solution, and the $15-a-month fee for codega is not something I want to do.

Thank you for such a great game, I'm looking forward to playing it much more in the future (on my Linux partion, I hope ), and I hope that my suggestions help make it even better.
-geez, this got long-

~Edit~ improved readability
~Edit2~ Add idle animations to NPCs, most importantly the ones in instances, but also in-town, so that they aren't just standing there waiting for someone to talk to them; have them making something, or twiddling(sp?) their thumbs or something, until they're spoken to

Would single word names be so terrible? I completely agree with not allowing numbers or symbols, but I don't really see the need to place a minumum on the number of words in your name. It's just a small peeve I have.

Guild Wars overall is very good, however changes should be made to keep the game more interactive. These change should include:
-Reduce the lags.
-NPC voice, example: merchant will say "what can I get ya?" (like Everquest II).
-Some short of BIG quest that require over 8 people to complete. Since most of the quests are just "get me this and get me that" then reward, it's fairly short. I think that PvE players will like something that is a little more challenging.
- Make the skills refund unlimited in towns, but inaccessible during missions and PvP arena.
-A new 4v4 arena that allow you to pick your team members.
-More Henchmen for Guild Hall, there is still only 4.
-Be able to team up with more than 1 person in Ascalon. Cmon now I have more friends than just 1.
-A chaotic game maybe called "King of the World" which being held once a month or so. The purpose of this game is everyone fight for themselves whoever score the most kills in 5 min wins.. and receive some prize from Arena Net or just gain some fame.
-Despite the facts that it will be unbalance in an over 8 players game in one team, Guild should have a mass scale castle war. Or at least have each team control a horde of NPC archers or fighters that doesn't have any skills.
-A spoilers in the official website that tell us how many Quests there are total in Ascalon because once we leave we can never return so I want to do every quests.
-The ability to choose our starting weapon, at least for warrior because I want to play with Sword & shield.
- Add either a bank or the ability to purchase another bag in ascalon 30 rooms is still not enough for those quests items.
- Improve the current casting and fighting effects. The spells look kind of weak and most moves look the same.
-Add a new class for incoming release. I suggest the class "thief" posted by me in March suggestion thread
- Friends from buddy list or Guild should have a different color.
-More appearances like the ability to customize our eyes colors, nose, face individually (like EQII).
-A village where all of the Players houses are in. It should cost a large sum for just to buy the land and house, expecting to be over 100,000. Players who just want to chill and chat will go here where their house is are surrounded with others people's houses. They can invite people to come in. Players should be able to buy some decorations and mount their winning trophies for event like "King of the World". This add on should be feature in an expansion.
-If you guys could change the fall of ascalon, the wall collapses and stuff make no sense. I think it would be better if you show an invading force of char and catapults shooting the wall.
-Add a "conjurer" profession in the next release. I would like to see more than just dead walking zombies.
-Able to form a guild in ascalon, since I want to enjoy my day at Ascalon to finish all of the Quests but at the same time I want to reserve my guild name.
-A guild battle that does not have NPCs, just plainly kill opposition team win. Not sure if this option is there but it would be nice if it is.
I understand that GW budget is not as much as games like EQII so I dont expect Arena Net can pull off all of these features. But do what you can and keep up the good work.

One thing that struck me about Guild Wars when i played the Beta this April was the small amount that a Guild Leader could do. I would have thought that in a game intended for a high number of Guilds there would have been more options and control over the aspects of creating and running a guild. This has probably been mentioned in this thread before, but i'd like to mention it again if you don't mind

A Personalized Guild Ranking System

I think this would be a great addition to Guilds, to make each Guild more personalised. In the last Beta weekend the Guild Ranks were a mere 'Guild Leader', 'Officer' and 'Member'. I think it would be brilliant if the leaders of the Guilds were able to personalise these, even add more, to create a more in depth ranking system...an example:

Grandmaster (Guild Leader)
Master (First Officer / Second Guild Leader)
Seargent (Officer)
Veteran (Accomplished Member)
Troop (Standard Member)
Recruit (New Member)

Other Stuff?

Maybe even allowing the Guild Leader to change what certain ranks can and can't do as well (like make it so the Guild Leader could give the Master the ability to Invite and Kick and Promote, the Seargent just the ability to Invite etc). Also i think some new Guild Abilities would be nice, though i cannot really think of what could be added, just something more than the ability to change the cape, invite, kick, promote. Maybe a Guild Treasury, where members can pay a tithe or donate gold to help with essential purchases (Like a Guild Hall) or helping out new members.

Mini-Games

As i said above, i have only played in Aprils Beta and did not get very far. But one thing i didn't see in my travels was any form on 'mini-game'! Everyone loves them, whether it be a form of card game, gambling, bowling, horse-racing, or chess. Or more. I think this would be a nice eventual addition to an already great game.

Mounts

I noticed you can hire NPC style mercenaries to help you out, but no horses to quicken your travel? Not even a pack-mule? They could be given health and attacks just like every other creature, and themselves be attacked, and they could be ridden across Ascalon. A pack mule could be led, not ridden, and have a large inventory space to carry all of the 'stuff' that is found from felling charr and the like. This would, of course, require that some of the places in Guild Wars be modified so that there is a place to hire these horses and pack mules and leave them, such as a stable.

Just a few things i would like to see incorporated into the best mmorpg i've played.

Exclamation Simple Character model request

Hi. I don't even know if the developers still check this far into this forum, but I just have one request.
Is it possible to make the female character models just a bit more substantial? I'm not requesting this because I'm worried about "unrealistic social norms for female beauty", I'm requesting this because right now the female models look absurdly thin. I've got a female warrior, and it just doesn't look possible for someone with such twig-size arms as hers to be wielding a sword as tall as she is!
Also, their bodies don't look large enough to hold the necessary organs, such as a lung, or a stomach. Perhaps the problem is in the body scale; I have my female warrior as tall as she can be. Her body might look more natural if she was shorter, but as it is now she's lanky bordering on skeletal!
Please, ArenaNet. Make the character models more realistic.
That's all. GW DevTeam, thank you for creating such a wonderful game. I cannot wait to play it come release.

Default Suggestions

Emotes:

There should be a "hug" emote and a "blow kiss" emote available. My husband and I have
been playing the game together and have noticed the lack of ability to show affection
through emotes... This would really enhance the role-playing experience.

PVP:

When playing in PVP mode, it should be possible to choose who you group with, or at
least to choose a small group with whom you know you'll be playing in the mission and then
have your small group be joined with other small groups or individuals who are also on the
mission. This way, my guild members could all group together before accepting a mission
and remain grouped together for the whole mission. Otherwise, in the PVP option, it seems
kind of pointless to make a guild or to even play with friends.

Inventory space:

I like that we have a vault we can access in post-Ascolon, and I love the fact that its tied
to our accounts instead of individual characters. It would be nice to have slots for gold
in the vault as well (makes it easier to save up for things).

Also, it would be a great enhancement to the guild aspect of playing the game if each guild
were assigned a bank vault as well. This vault could be accessed by any of the officers,
though each one should have to pay for initial access as our characters do for their regular
vault. Then, when any guild officer went to a vault keeper, they'd have the option of
opening their vault or the guild's vault. This would make it easier for guild members to
expand and help each other out.

It would also be nice if we could access more bags earlier on in the game. Maybe the bags
that fit in the big-bag inventory slots that could be accessed (by collection quest, regular
quest, or even crafting) early in the game could have a smaller carrying capacity than the
ones we can get later on. It would still be really nice to have more ability to carry things.

General:

It would be really helpful to have a way to logout to the character selection screen instead
of logging completely out of the game. Very often, I'm playing with friends and we decide a
different character on one of our accounts would round out our group better and its a pain to
have to enter our password again and completely log back into the game each time we want to
switch out characters.

Also, PLEASE have a printed map in the game boxes when they are released

Outfitters:

It would be nice if you could sell stacked items to an outfitter individually, instead of
being forced to sell the whole stack.

Clothing:

I love the female mesmer undies, but why is the underwear for the rest of the character types
so boring? Make it fun and sexy like the mesmer!

Grouping:

It would be great if you could target a team member by clicking on their name and have a
waypoint marker appear on your map to help you find them if they got separated. It would
also be nice to have a feature such as this for ranger pets, especially in the case where the
ranger dies and has to return to a still-fighting pet.

Guilds:

Please, please, please make it possible to write longer guild announcements!

Anyway, my husband, friends, and I love the game and are totally stoked about its full
release.

This just came to me as I was sitting here trying to figure out what Emblem to use for the guild me and some friends have formed.

Looking over the designs that the game comes with, I have to say I was sadly disappointed with the selection. Some look really good (aside from a few small details) and others are…well…rather bad.

So my mind went “boy it’d be cool if we could just import our own design” but I do recall the conversations had before about how it’d turn into a total CS:Source epidemic, with a bunch of really rude and crass images strapped onto capes (trust me, I hated that too). But then it dawned on me:

What if you were able to ‘commission’ an NPC in game to put your custom emblem onto your cape? It wouldn’t be cheap by ANY means (lets say 100,000 or more) since artists are all pompous and stuff and wont work for small fees. Once you’ve done that, the design you send off (in proper formats to make it uber easy to implement) gets reviewed by someone at ANet, before its allowed. I know they’d likely have hundreds upon hundreds to look through, which is why I suggest an extremely high monetary fee to do it, which would limit the number of requests coming in. If approved, they could take the format you’ve sent them (say transparent .PNG for example) and have it stream with the next update to everyone’s machines.

But! To keep everyone from having the emblem if they’re not in your guild, have it not be publicly available, keyed to say the guild leaders account or something, so only those in the guild would have access to the emblem, but everyone would be able to see it regardless.

I think it’d allow the game to be a little more…unique, given its main theme (guilds) as well as keep it clean and without the crap that litters other games that let you have such free customization.

(yes I know its like 3 days before release, but inspiration can’t be forced to work at any given time! )

And that, is my two cents.

Default Coat of Arms

The visual design of Guild Wars is coherent and well crafted, but the guild capes can sometimes look goofy and out of place in relation to the rest of the (gorgeous) game world. I feel that cape designs should be changed to better fit the feel of the game and that this can be helped by more closely following historical examples.

In the following suggestions I will use the heraldic terms "coat of arms" to refer to the design placed on the shield (or cape in this case), "field" to refer to the surface that carries the design, "partitions" to describe divisions of the field such as when it is quartered (split crosswise into four sections), and "charges" to describe designs that are not partitions, such as lions or unicorns. I'm an amateur when it comes to heraldry, so if you know I've made mistakes please correct me.

1. When creating the design of the guild cape, allow an option to enclose the design within a shield shape. This decorated shield would then be displayed on the cape. This would be similar to the look of a jacket from a private boarding school (Hogwarts) with the school's coat of arms embroidered on it. Besides looking good, this option would resolve some of the visual awkwardness that can occur if the cape itself is partitioned. A partitioned field looks fine on a shield, but often looks strange on a cape.

2. If the field is partitioned, allow an option to adjust the display of the charge to fit the partition. For example, if the field is quartered (divided crosswise into four sections), the player would have the option to have the charge appear in one of the upper quadrants and also in the opposite lower quadrant. Currently, if the field is partitioned, the charge is centered on the field, which can look strange.

3. Allow an option to alter the size of the charge. Currently some of the charges, such as the phoenix, are so large that they touch the edges of the cape. This option would allow the player to control the boldness or discreetness of the design.

4. Alter the style and selection of the charges to better fit the game world, perhaps by mimicking historical examples. Currently, most of the charges look a bit out of place. Part of this is due to design sense - the charges are inelegant or even crude and are not in step with the art direction that keeps the rest of the game looking so good. The problem is difficult to describe clearly, but I hope you can see what I mean. The other part of the problem is in the selection of charges. Many of the charges feel as if they've been inserted into the game world from elsewhere. For example, this jester's hat at column 1, row 3. The jester's hat seems goofy and out of place in the game world and is drawn crudely. For other examples, see the spiral hand design at column 1, row 3 and the triple star design at column 3, row 1.

One additional minor suggestion: Consider adjusting the hairlines of the male models. In the final beta weekend, I noticed that the hairlines on all the male models were unusually low on their foreheads.

With all this said, I hope you will not dismiss these suggestions as minor. Part of this game's appeal is the high quality of the graphics. The design of the guild cape is an exciting process for many players, and the finished cape becomes tied with a character's identity. I hope that the appearance of this feature can be raised to match the level of quality seen throughout the rest of the game.

As for the rest... I love Guild Wars! I hope it's rewarded with the success it deserves.
